GENESIS
- National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 Mandate (Para 15.4): NEP 2020 explicitly underscores that teacher education requires multidisciplinary inputs and high-quality content alongside pedagogy. It mandates that all teacher education programs must be conducted within composite, multidisciplinary institutions, requiring all stand-alone TEIs to convert by 2030 to offer the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).
- Transition from Isolation to Integration: Traditionally, many TEIs have functioned in isolation, which restricted their potential for academic growth and cross-disciplinary innovation. Merging or collaborating into multidisciplinary HEIs addresses these limitations by embedding education departments alongside liberal arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, commerce, and mathematics.
- Holistic Skill Development: The framework aims to move institutions beyond rigid disciplinary boundaries. Merging into multidisciplinary ecosystems fosters environments where diverse fields intersect, equipping future educators to address complex, real-world school structures (5+3+3+4) design covering ages 3 to 18) with a broad, cross-disciplinary perspective.
- Regulatory Alignment & Sustainability: These guidelines operationalize the vision of NEP 2020 in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, providing structured mechanisms (such as direct independent transformation, merging under the same or different managements, or localized interim collaborations) to ensure institutional sustainability, shared infrastructure, and streamlined statutory compliance.
